Monday 2nd June 2008

Free Design show to help local business grow
Knowledge Dock, the enterprise development service of the University of East London, will be hosting ‘Design Formula’ on Thursday 12th June 2008 from 12.30pm – 5.30pm at the Knowledge Dock Business Centre, Docklands Campus.
‘Design Formula’ is a free event for established businesses and business start-ups in Essex and East London, to explore innovative, value-added ideas and funding sources for enterprise growth.  The event will consist of a series of workshops, 1-2-1 quick fire discussions and insights from key industry speakers.
Attendees will find out more about how to protect their design, make it a reality and ways to fund and commercialize their idea, and the various business support services available to them.
David Constantine co-founder of Motivation, a charity which has designed innovative, affordable mobility aids for people in the developing world, will be the Keynote Speaker at the event.  David is wheelchair-bound and through pure determination his charity is now distributing the wheelchairs internationally to several organisations, including the Red Cross.
Other participants include representatives from ip21 (trademarks, patents and copyright specialists), Grant Thornton (chartered accountants involved with the ‘Design in Demand’ project), Angle Technology (specialists in the processes and infrastructure that facilitate the creation, development and growth of successful technology businesses) and product development specialists at the Knowledge Dock.
Guests will also have the opportunity to see an exhibition from 1st, 2nd and 3rd Year Product Design and Product Design Futures undergraduate students.   The exhibition will showcase a wide variety of product ideas ranging from design projects for the disabled, sustainable packaging, environmental and educational programmes, as well as projects relating to the 2012 Olympics.
There are still some free tickets available for the event, which can be requested by contacting Kate Ashenden on 020 8223 7076 or email k.ashenden@uel.ac.uk
