Five enterprising graduates from the University of East London (UEL) have been awarded grants of up to £1,000 each by the Haberdashers' Company of the City of London to help them start up their own businesses ranging from fashion to film making.

Revolutionary new inventions including ergonomic cookware, hi-tech holographic fabric, a pushchair that folds into a backpack, an eco-friendly liquid compost system, and boxer shorts incorporating space-age technology are among the finalists for the 2005 British Female Inventors & Innovators Exhibition, Conference and Awards, the annual showcase of creative, technical and entrepreneurial talent, held on 16th-17th February in Greenwich.

A high-ranking delegation from Denmark including Helge Sander, Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, seven members of the parliamentary Committee of Science and Innovation and officials from the Danish government visited the University of East London's Docklands campus on Thursday 23rd September as part of a four day study tour of the UK and the Netherlands.
