Comtact Case Study
05 October 2006
Comtact is one of the UK’s leading internet and telephony specialists, pioneering the way to the future of business communications in what is fast becoming an industry buzzword: namely, ‘hosted technologies’. The company was at a critical stage in preparing to release a revolutionary communications technology solution to SMEs in the UK when they opted to approach Knowledge Dock for support.
“The solution is an innovative multiple-service package that is unique in the UK market, if not globally, and our company is looking to achieve a paradigm in the way in which businesses deal with communication technologies for the foreseeable future,” says Tom Nokes, Head of Marketing for Comtact.
“The solution will seamlessly integrate entire phone systems and computer network functionality over one single secure and resilient hosted connection. We know that the technologies will give people greater power to communicate; give greater mobility and ultimately deliver a competitive advantage to users; however, we needed a competent associate to investigate and test the key features that are needed by companies.”
In character with their innovative spirit, Knowledge Dock not only helped Comtact by acquiring an Innovation Award from the London Development Agency to save the company over £1000 in costs, but the KD team also provided a high-calibre undergraduate, Simon Knockton, to undertake technical and market research for their communications solution through the bespoke Shell Step student placement programme.
“Comtact have enjoyed having Simon involved in the business, and we are more than happy for Simon to represent the company,” delights Tom. “The key deliverables have been fulfilled at each stage of the project and we are looking forward to seeing the full fruits of this in the final stages. We are now preparing the solution in a cost-effective manner for all types of business.
“Simon’s ability to learn complex technologies and take on new working practices was very impressive. The project demanded a high level of contact with company directors and senior decision makers; he was very competent and used his resources to his full potential in terms of both knowledge sharing and communication tools.
“In terms of business support, the Knowledge Dock team has been extremely helpful. Winning the Innovation Award for Comtact has been a pleasant victory and could not have been timelier in execution. Thanks to the completion of our Shell Step project, Comtact now have a clear definition of the competitive environment and a better understanding of how to position the product. The challenge for Comtact is now in the realisation that our single offering is the only offering of its type and, therefore, the 500-plus published news stories in Simon’s research are nothing short of brilliant.
“We would like to have Simon working for Comtact when he graduates as he has been an asset to the business and a valued member of the team. The research and development done by Simon will be a key part of launching the innovation to the market. We also have a solid platform to build on the positive PR that has been generated to continue to educate businesses about hosted technologies. The development of this product will be key to our entire next phase of online strategy, forming the cornerstone of our channel to the market.”
