Morgan Lovell Case Study
03 January 2007
Morgan Lovell is the UK’s leading office interior design, fit out and refurbishment specialist, a firm whose success and style has provided the most inspiring office transformation solutions for a range of clients including Philips, T-Mobile and ITV.
With environment awareness gathering more focus on the global stage and as a key part of the company’s ethos, Morgan Lovell embarked upon an initiative that would prove to be a crucial pursuit in combatting the impact that offices have upon the environment for future generations.
Looking for an extra pair of hands to kick-start the initiative, the company approached the Shell Step programme for a bright and vibrant undergraduate to lead the development of a ‘Sustainable Office Design Guide’ – the centrepiece for an initiative that would serve as a manual for sustainable office solutions and environmental awareness throughout the company practice.
Turning to Knowledge Dock, the company found an “excellent choice” for helming the project in the form of Architecture student, Alia Khonji, who liaised with a range of interior designers, environmentalists and heads of pertinent companies to inform and shape the Design Guide and its strategy.
“Alia’s outstanding work is the first step in creating a whole programme around sustainable office design and construction,” says Paul Kelly, Head of Marketing. “Our guide to sustainable office design has been completed and forms a key aspect of a new initiative to ensure that Morgan Lovell will be an entirely eco-friendly office transformation specialist by 2007.
“Miss Khonji’s work has helped raise awareness across the company of this very important initiative. She understood the nature of the business and was able to run with the project from the start, showing excellent thinking skills and creativity, working extremely hard and intelligently to contribute more than we could have expected. She was continually positive and made a positive impact on the department.
“Alia showed extraordinary resilience in that she had to get the attention of many very busy people and key figures – some of whom did not buy into the project at first. She kept at it and was very patient and turned people around, excelling at this particularly difficult work.
“Her success has prompted us to have her come back and present her project personally in three Morgan Lovell offices to our national teams, including senior management. Our business now has a tangible starting point that will enable us to sell a new service as well as having a positive impact on the environment. The final project has been a fantastic success that will have a lasting impact on our organisation.”
