The Rose Link

15 March 2007

THE NAME: Lee Baker
THE BUSINESS: The Rose Link
(Complimentary therapies dedicated to the welfare of women)

The Rose Link is Lee Baker’s business dedicated wholly to the welfare of women. As a member of the Complimentary Medical Association, she is a premier complementary therapist who provides massage and aromatherapy services for women's groups across all communities. From reducing wrinkles through acupressure to relaxation techniques and boosting self-confidence, Lee has also worked compassionately with women who have experience domestic violence, where she has provided massage and aromatherapy for groups in support of their counselling.

“I did my complementary therapy training in Beirut and work exclusively with women,” says Lee. “Most of the therapies I provide are Eastern remedies and therapies which have lasted for centuries.”

Having worked in hospitals for 16 years, Lee felt that conventional medicines were often over-used, abused and unnecessary as a first-point solution. “Pills target pain, but not what causes it,” she points out. “The sledgehammer effect that it can have upon the body is absolutely unnecessary. There are so many natural remedies available to help ease the mind and body, and that is precisely what I aim to provide for women.”

Crucially, Lee’s expertise is pioneering the unique use of massage as a catalyst towards other therapies, including a massage which encourages weight loss:

“There is lots of publicity and controversy about it,” says Lee, “but it is more than just a massage, it is a lifestyle that follows a Mediterranean diet. I believe in a holistic approach. Complementary therapies are not just for pampering, they are useful to ease problems in everyday life.”

Where other business support organisations could not provide The Rose Link with the right support, Empower saw her potential with open eyes. “I first met Empower at a Bengali Woman’s conference and met Rugina there. No one has taken me in like how they did. They offer both a professional and compassionate hand.

Empower gives me a practical perspective. They taught me to charge the appropriate prices for my expert services, and to have a stronger business attitude to contacting people. I am currently looking to expand my business, so that I can help the welfare of women across all of East London.
