In wake of the high technical demand for their projects, TwinTalk came to Simlab for help in developing a bi-lingual multimedia programme, which would serve specifically as a visual aid for inspiring and teaching young children in a chosen second language.

 

The company had their audio-visual materials, but further assistance was required for professionally assembling their project, to take advantage of their chosen media and maximise the project’s educational and visual potential.

 

Simlab’s role was to provide TwinTalk Productions with ‘hands-on’ training in the use of professional video editing software. Importantly, the training cemented TwinTalk’s abilities in a range of production stages, including advanced video editing; video composting and chroma key techniques; stop motion animation, popular video effects and DVD authoring. Simlab’s final aim was to assist in delivering a prototype product based on their existing animation video footage.

 

“We first came into contact with Simlab at a business conference a year and a half ago,” says Lily Cayless, a TwinTalk member who underwent the Simlab training. “They’ve been a great help ever since. The biggest benefit of working with Simlab was that they enabled us – with the funding they provided from the EU – to set up a complete prototype within 37 hours, with which we can now go away and find further commercial funding to continue the project.”

 

Lily was happy to expand on the project’s aims: “Our goal is to keep children exposed to the languages of the world and to cherish their respective mother tongues for future generations to come, before it is all diluted and lost through various channels of reduction, including technology. With Simlab’s help we’ve managed to use technology as a means for keeping children interested and informed, about their language, their heritage and about their families.”

 

“Simlab Project Manager Joanne was always there for us, and put us in touch with the right networks and the right people.” Simlab also provided TwinTalk with suggested reading and references, to follow up and continue creating successful children’s educational programmes.

 

The programme has been a compelling business aid for TwinTalk’s funding and future prospects. “We are very pleased with what Simlab has done for us. As soon as we get the appropriate funding for our goals, we will definitely be working with Simlab again.”
