RIX Centre

The Rix Centre is an innovative new charity improving the lives of people with learning disabilities through the use of new media technologies.

As a leading research resource based at the University of East London, the Rix Centre is committed to developing teaching and learning, research and multimedia production for people in the learning disability community.

The Rix Centre’s current projects include developing E-learning systems, multimedia materials and support to help people with learning disabilities to make the most of these methods of learning.

Among these projects is ‘Project @pple’, a research programme that will give people with different types of learning disability the chance to learn online with educational materials, games and information. It will also help users to make their own personal Web material that they can use to tell people about themselves.

The Rix Centre works with organisations across commercial, voluntary and educational sectors forging partnerships and pooling knowledge and experience. Through E-Learning, the charity provides fresh ways to deliver education that can engage people with learning disabilities more effectively than traditional methods.
